Council is preparing the Mudgee Town Centre Growth Strategy and Master Plan to guide the growth and development of the town centre and surrounding areas over the next 20 -30 years.

The Strategy will establish a clear vision for the town centre, identifying opportunities for future growth, mixed-use development, increased building heights and greater activation, while supporting a diverse mix of retail, tourism, services and housing and protecting Mudgee’s valued heritage character. It will also consider improvements to walking, cycling and connections to surrounding areas and help inform future planning controls, infrastructure priorities and project delivery.

In May 2026, Council undertook extensive community and stakeholder engagement, receiving more than 800 responses. Feedback provided valuable insights into growth and development, public spaces, access and movement, and town centre activation.

While this feedback provides a strong foundation for the Strategy and Master Plan, views on appropriate building heights and the future scale of development varied. Council is therefore seeking further feedback on the building heights and built forms the community would or would not support in different parts of the town centre.

Let us know what you think about the proposed building heights and built form options presented below.
