Council is progressing plans for the Mortimer Street Precinct in Mudgee’s CBD, with community feedback playing an important role in shaping the project’s direction.
The proposed development aims to activate the vacant site between Mortimer and Church Streets and is currently being investigated as a potential mixed-use precinct incorporating a range of commercial, retail, accommodation, residential and parking opportunities.
In February, Council received 690 responses to a community survey, with residents highlighting a desire for accessible, undercover parking, along with spaces for retail, health, specialist and allied health services.
Building on this feedback, residents were also invited to participate in a series of community focus groups in July, to provide more detailed input into the future of the precinct. Expressions of interest were open to all residents, with each session running for approximately two hours.
Insights gathered through the survey and focus groups will be considered alongside technical, financial and strategic inputs to guide the ongoing planning and design of the precinct.
The project is currently in the pre-construction phase, which will establish project feasibility, design direction, construction cost estimates, a detailed business case and design documentation required to progress the project to Development Application stage.
Council secured $2 million through the Australian Government’s Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program, with a further $500,000 contribution from Council, to undertake the pre-construction phase.
There will be further opportunities for the community to provide feedback later in the year as the project progresses into design development.
