October is Motorcycle Awareness Month, and Mid-Western Council is joining neighbouring regions to run Spot Joe Rider – a fun motorcycle campaign to help drivers notice riders to increase safety.

Starting on Monday 9 October until 13 October, Spot Joe Rider encourages drivers and their passengers to look out for motorcyclists dressed as Joe Rider and report their sighting online to enter a draw to win daily Mudgee Money vouchers. Joes Riders are visible by wearing high a High Vis Vest with the Joe Rider Logo clearly printed on the back.

Council’s Road Safety Officer, Sammy Cecchini said, “Joe Riders are volunteer motorcyclists wearing bright yellow vests. From Monday 9 to Friday 13 October, our Joe’s will be riding around local roads and we challenge you to spot them,” she said.

Ms Cecchini said ‘motorcycle riders are more exposed than other drivers. If they are involved in an accident, they risk serious injury or death. A common risk for riders is not being seen at intersections or while changing lanes.”

Once drivers have pulled over to a safe place, Joe Rider sightings can be reported on Councils website by following the Joe Rider links. A daily prize of $50 Mudgee Money is up for grabs.
