Planning for the future

Strategic land use planning is the process of planning for future development within the Mid-Western Region. Council identifies and assesses future land uses to meet growth and demand for housing, jobs and services.

Comprehensive Land Use Strategy

The Mid-Western Regional Draft Comprehensive Land Use Strategy provides clear direction and guidance for future change in the area for the next 15 to 20 years.

Population projections

Population projections for the Mid-Western Regional Local Government Area from 2005-2031 were prepared by Ratio Consultants. These population projections were revised to include the influence of potential employment generating developments within the region.

Retail study

The study is a comprehensive review of retail and commercial requirements for Council, building on the outcomes of the Mudgee Retail Study undertaken in 2000.

Urban Release Strategy

To date the majority of housing growth has occurred in Mudgee however other towns in the region have also been impacted in recent years by shifts in the housing market.

Council in conjunction with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DP&E) identified the need to prepare an Urban Release Strategy for the towns of Mudgee and Gulgong to guide decision making around the timing, location and type of future residential development.
