Rylstone Dam nearing capacity and likely to spill
Published on 29 May 2025
Residents downstream of Rylstone Dam are advised the dam is nearing capacity and could spill in coming days.
Rylstone Dam is an un-gated dam which means that it uses the spillway to release water downstream.
When an un-gated dam reaches its maximum storage level, water will flow over the spillway into the downstream river.
Rylstone Dam is currently at 95 per cent capacity (as at 4.00pm Wednesday, 28 May) and rising following moderate rainfall last week.
It is probable that water will start flowing over the spillway in the coming days.
Council would like to remind the Rylstone community that once the dam reaches 100 per cent, the rise and fall of the Cudgegong River downstream of the dam will be associated with rainfall in Rylstone Dam Catchment.
