NAIDOC Week Celebrations

Council invites the community to come together from 5 to 12 July for a week of celebration, learning and connection in honour of NAIDOC Week 2025.

The week begins on Saturday, 5 July with a Culture and Environment Walk around Peoples Park Gulgong – Wynella Street from 11am to 2pm, offering participants a chance to connect with Country and explore the natural beauty and cultural significance of the area.

On Sunday, 6 July, renowned herbalist Pat Collins will lead a First Aid Workshop using native plants at NEWCo, Kandos, running from 10am to 4pm. This hands-on session explores traditional uses of native flora for healing and wellbeing.

A Youth Workshop will be held on Tuesday, 8 July from 9am to 12pm at NEWCo, Kandos, where young people can shape and decorate their own clapping sticks, connecting with culture through art and storytelling.

On Wednesday, 9 July at 6pm, NEWCo Kandos will host a documentary screening of More Than a Fish Kill. The film highlights cultural and environmental challenges connected to water rights and care for Country.

The NAIDOC Week Flag Raising Ceremony will take place at the Kandos Museum on Thursday, 10 July at 10am, bringing the community together to honour culture, resilience and identity.

The week concludes on Thursday, 10 July with a Culture and Environment Walk around Putta Bucca Wetlands from 11am to 2pm - a reflective event inviting community members to appreciate the landscape, learn from local perspectives and celebrate connection to land.

Light refreshments will be provided at some of the events. Council encourages everyone in the region to get involved, take part, and show support during this important week of recognition and reconciliation.
