Kandos artists Gabrielle Bates, Leo Cremonese and Georgina Pollard will feature artworks in The Indivisible, an ambitious new exhibition of abstract paintings at Mudgee Arts Precinct, opening at 6pm on Friday, 25 July and running until Monday, 15 September.

This exhibition highlights their regional artistic practice, shaped by relocating from Sydney to Kandos on Dabee Wiradjuri land over the past 12 years. Kandos has increasingly attracted artists seeking creative freedom and an affordable way of living that is closer to nature and community. It has drawn figures such as Linda Jackson, Locust Jones and Blak Douglas, alongside the nationally recognised contemporary art festival, Cementa, which was co-founded by Pollard. The independent mid-career artists Bates, Cremonese, and Pollard take their paintings beyond representation.

“We engage with the fundamental nature of existence, the indivisible point where matter can no longer be divided,” Cremonese said about the artists’ work.

“Through rhythm, pattern, energy, ritual, and connection to place, we embrace the living force within our materials, treating them as active collaborators rather than passive mediums.”

Gallery Curator, Lizzy Galloway said working with the Kandos-based artists was one of Mudgee Arts Precinct’s highlights across the three years it has been operating.

“Promoting the extraordinary talent from our region has always been the gallery’s top priority,” Ms Galloway said.

“Collaborating with the dynamic arts community of Kandos and bringing their work to our beautiful gallery space will provide a real highlight for members of the local community and the many tourists who visit the space.”

Public engagement programs alongside the exhibition will give audiences the opportunity to explore the artists’ perspectives in greater depth. An Artist Conversation will take place at Mudgee Arts Precinct on Saturday, 26 July at 10am, followed by an Open Public Forum with Nina Stromqvist, Sarah Breen Lovett and Kent Buchanan on Saturday, 30 August at 11am. A catalogue with essays by Ann Finnegan, Alex Pedley, Nina Stromqvist and Alex Wisser will accompany The Indivisible.

The exhibition opens Friday, 25 July at 6pm and runs until Monday, 15 September 2025.
