Australia Day Ambassador Revealed

Council is excited to reveal highly accomplished screenwriter and producer of some of Australia’s most beloved television programs, Peter Herbert, is the region’s 2022 Australia Day Ambassador.

Peter began his career writing and producing for Crawford Productions with television classics such as Cop Shop, The Sullivans, The Flying Doctors, and Acropolis Now

He wrote iconic Australian characters including Con the Fruiterer for The Comedy Company and Effie in Acropolis Now.

In 1991, Peter produced the inaugural Comedy Festival Charity Gala, which is now in its 27th year. He also produced the 1992 TV Week Logies hosted by Steve Vizard.

Peter is currently Head of Screen Business and Producing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School and teaches in the Master of Arts programs.

Mayor of Mid-Western Regional Council Des Kennedy said he was pleased to welcome Peter Herbert to the region.

“Peter has been responsible for creating so many loved television characters and programs that have brought joy to so many,” Cr Kennedy said.

“It is times like these we recognised the uplifting power of humour and I look forward to his address on Australia Day.”

The Mid-Western Region’s 2022 Australia Day celebrations will be held on Wednesday, 26 January at Anzac Park, Gulgong beginning with a barbecue breakfast at 8am followed by the official ceremony at 9am.
