Council is committed to supporting the region’s businesses and providing opportunities for growth and learning. The 2024 Central West Entrepreneurs Summit will be held at the Mudgee Arts Precinct on Thursday 9 May from 8:30am to 4:30pm and will provide the perfect opportunity for business owners to learn, grow, network with driven professionals, and receive inspiration from guest speakers.

Morning session speakers include Nik and Harry Robinson (co-founders Good Citizens Eyewear), Holly Goodman (founder Peter Bill), Terry Wilcher (founder 123tix.com.au), and Kim Edwards (manager Country Universities Centre [CUC] Mudgee Region).

A networking lunch will take place before the afternoon session featuring Cherie Clonan (founder and CEO The Digital Picnic) who will conduct a workshop on advancing knowledge in the digital marketing sphere through the use of artificial intelligence (AI).

Country University Centre Officially Opened 


Country Universities Centre (CUC) Mudgee Region has officially opened its doors. Located at 70 Court Street Mudgee, the CUC provides residents the opportunity to enrol and study remotely from the local state-of-the-art facility that provides free access to high-speed Internet, modern technology, and general academic support to assist in study.
 
CUC Mudgee Region has received significant interest from the community. Presently, 64 students (aged from 18 to 75) are enrolled, studying at 17 universities across Australia in 13 different areas including medicine, law, criminology, art, science, social work, business, architecture, and environmental studies.

Update to Unemployment Rate and Business Count


Latest data has revealed that the Mid-Western Region’s unemployment rate decreased 0.4% to a new low of 1.3% for the September 2023 quarter. As of this quarter, only 176 residents were unemployed, and the region’s workforce was approximately 13,300.

For the September 2023 quarter, the unemployment rate of Mudgee and surrounds was also 1.3%, however Gulgong and surrounds’ rate was only 1.0%. The unemployment rate of Kandos, Rylstone and surrounds was 2.6%.

Latest data has additionally revealed the number of registered businesses in the region increased 3% (81 businesses) in the 12 months to 30 June 2023. As of this date, there were 2,952 registered businesses in the region. The majority of them were non-employing and turn over up to $1,999,999 annually.
