Healthy Communities

The Healthy Communities project was originally funded by an Australian Government initiative and aimed to reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity within our communities by maximising the number of adults engaged in physical activity and healthy eating programs.

With the Healthy Communities grant funding ceasing in June 2014 Mid-Western Regional Council has continued to allocate funding towards the initiative for free fitness classes within the region along with the administrative support of a Mid-Western Healthy Communities Alliance.

The initiative has seen over 2,500 instances of participation in various programs across the region between June 30 2014 and January 31 2015. Programs are run by individual contractors along with Community Health and have included; Aqua fitness, adult swim fit and learn to swim programs, fitness classes, Heartbeat classes, healthy eating programs and body smart health check clinics.
