Thank you from the Mayor...
Mid-Western Regional Council would like to thank the local community for their support of the recent AAMI Country v City Origin match and the Open Trans Tasman Touch Football Test Series held at Glen Willow Regional Sports Stadium in April. These events provided our Region a chance to showcase everything we have to offer and we did not disappoint.
The AAMI Country v City Origin game has been hailed a major success with 8,621 spectators coming through the gates and almost 1,000,000 viewers watching on at home. The players, commentators and officials were all thrilled with the Glen Willow facilities and the Region in general. From the rugby league clinic and autograph session held in Mudgee to the NRL One Community Ambassador visits to Gulgong and Kandos/Rylstone, local people got to interact with their heroes like never before. The stadium playing surface has been declared one of the best in the state by both players and coaches and we hope to welcome them back in the future.
Four days later our Region was again on show when the best touch footballers from Australia and New Zealand played their annual Trans Tasman Test Series over three days. Locals were treated to high quality and fast-paced games while visitors had the chance to experience some of the other attractions in our region. For all those lucky enough to witness the New Zealanders perform the Haka at the ANZAC Day Service in Mudgee, this was only the beginning of a fantastic week. While Australia took home the trophies, both teams were left with a very favourable impression of Mudgee and have vowed to return.
These events would not be possible without the support of a number of local community groups. We would like to recognise the Lions Club, Volunteer Rescue Association and the State Emergency Service for their assistance with traffic and pedestrian management. We would also like to acknowledge the hardworking volunteers from the Mudgee, Gulgong and Kandos/Rysltone Rugby League Clubs along with the Mudgee Touch Association for their time and efforts in providing catering.
We look forward to attracting more major events to benefit the local community and bring visitors to our Region.
