Council Meetings and Committees
There are four standing committees of Council, each comprised of Councillors, that play a leading role in setting the direction of Council's programs. These standing committees are:
- Planning and Development
- Strategic
- Cultural and Community Services
- Corporate Services
Assisting in this work are a number of other committees, sub-committees and many other bodies to which Council has delegated representation.
The standing committees generally meet on the first Wednesday of each month and consider reports and progress on projects that staff of the Council have undertaken during the month. While the standing committees make final decisions on some matters, they forward recommendations on spending decisions to the full Council's regular meeting on the third Wednesday of the month for final determination.
A further 18 committees of Council are comprised of Councillors, members of the public and staff of the Council. These Committees are advisory bodies for Council and they make recommendations for consideration by the standing committees.
Occasionally Council holds extraordinary meetings. These are Council meetings held outside the normal meeting cycle, most often to consider matters of an urgent nature.
Members of the public may address the Committee Meeting or the Council Meeting at an Open Day which precedes the meeting. Speakers are given 5 minutes to present any issue of relevance to the Council. Presenters are not allowed to direct questions to Councillors, although Councillors may question them. If you wish to speak at Open Day please contact the Executive Secretary on 1300 765 002 or 02 6378 2850 by 3.00 pm on the day of the meeting. Alternatively, please make yourself known to the Manager Governance prior to the commencement of the meeting.
