Local History

A valuable resource held by Mid-Western Regional Council is their local history collection. The collection includes historic and contemporary aspects of our region and contains parish maps, books on the origin of our towns and several of our heritage buildings, books about the area and books by local authors. Local newspapers are available on microfilm.

Should you have material, old photographs, documents, maps or any information on people, places or events connected with Mid-Western Regional Council and our villages or towns, the Librarians would appreciate hearing from you.

Many people are interested in tracing their family history. The best place to begin is with any facts about your family that you know and work backwards. Ask relatives about dates and people. Listening to stories about the family can produce interesting facts.

Mid-Western Regional Council Library holds over 500 items that provide information on births, deaths and marriages, Pioneer Registers, Shipping, Census, guides for tracing ancestors, convicts.

Please ask any of our librarians for assistance to start tracing your family tree.
