Drains & Waterways

Mid-Western Regional Council’s stormwater and drainage program is designed to provide a highly effective and efficient stormwater collection and disposal system that achieves an optimum balance between the level of protection and minimum cost to the community.

Council undertook a review of the stormwater systems in Mudgee and Gulgong in 2007/08. The Rylstone/Kandos drainage study requires review to refine future required works. This work will identify major works to deal with existing problem areas and cater for future growth of the towns.

To ensure that Council can undertake the works required, $250,000 per year has been added to the budget.

Other works included in this area are the construction or repair of rural concrete causeways identified and included in the 10 year causeway improvement program contained in the Road Network Strategic Plan.

Council does not levy an annual charge in relation to stormwater management services.

These are the major works planned for this year:

  • Finalisation of the review of the Rylstone/Kandos drainage system.
  • Construction of a detention basin upstream of the railway line in Mudgee.
  • Causeway upgrades on Twelve Mile, Beragoo, Green Gully and Old Grattai Roads.

And in future years:

  • Channel enlargement from the Wallerawang – Gwabegar Railway embankment to Lang Street.
  • Channel enlargement on Southern side of Gladstone Street from Fairy Dale Lane to Bell Street.
  • Causeway upgrades as identified in the Road Network Strategic Plan, which is updated annually.
