Strategic Plans & Policies
A number of strategic plans have been developed to assist in managing Council's infrastructure across the region. Council reviews these plans on an annual basis to ensure they remain up to date and incorporate input from our community. Policies are used to provide a framework of activities and standards for this infrastructure.
Current Works Program
Council's program of works and recent achievements is presented online to provide current information on potential disruptions to traffic and to keep the community informed about delivery of the Council Management Plan.
Roads
Council maintains a road network of approximately 2,445km, including 163km under contract to the RTA (the Castlereagh Highway and Sofala Rd). An annual Road Network Strategic Plan sets priorities for works and can be found here.
Waste
Council operates kerbside domestic waste & recycling collection services within the towns of Mudgee, Gulgong, Kandos and Rylstone and the villages of Charbon and Clandulla. A licensed Waste Management Facility exists at Mudgee and 14 Waste Transfer Stations service the other towns, villages and rural areas.
Water
Three separate water supply schemes are operated at Mudgee, Gulgong and Rylstone. Water for Mudgee and Gulgong is sourced from the Cudgegong River downstream of the Windermere Dam, with the Rylstone System drawing water from a 3.2ML dam upstream of Rylstone. On average 2.8 giga litres of water is treated and supplied annually via more than 266km of mains.
Wastewater
Four Sewer Treatment Plants are operated by Council in Gulgong, Kandos, Mudgee and Rylstone treating effluent from approximately 13,100 residents. The system comprises more than 170 km of pipes taking sewage from residents and businesses to one of the 12 pumping stations that pump through 10km of rising mains to one of the 4 treatment plants.
Emergencies
Council works with all Emergency Services to deal with emergency situations across the region.
Drains & Waterways
The urban drainage network is managed by Council and carries storm water to creeks and rivers adjacent to the region's townships. The waterways in Mudgee are managed by a flood study undertaken in 2002 and reviewed in 2008. Flood studies are currently being developed for Rylstone.
