Parks & Sporting Fields

PARKS AND SPORTING FIELDS

Council provides a wide range of services and amenities within the Region's parks and reserves. These include:

  • sports grounds
  • showgrounds
  • passive and recreational reserves
  • conservation and amenity reserves
  • walkaways
  • public toilets

Council actively promotes and continues to develop these facilities as it believes they are beneficial to the well being of the community and contribute to healthier individuals within the community.

Mid-Western Regional Council maintains 55 parks, gardens and oval / playing field areas, 64 separate sections of road reserves and other reserves, and 11 cemeteries (8 rural, 3 town). This equates to 6,164 m2 of garden beds and approximately 245.39ha of turfed or general mowing area.

Council provides safe parks, playground areas, sports fields and reserves that meet the needs of residents and visitors to the region whilst ensuring that they are free from hazards.

Major Works Planned for 2009/10

Public Toilets

  • Public Toilet Upgrade and Rationalisation - Council will continue its ongoing process of upgrading all of its public toilets

Passive Reserves

  • Bellevue Estate - the open space in this subdivision needs significant work to bring it up to an acceptable standar, $80,000 has been set aside in 2009/10.
  • Flirtation Hill, gulgong - Council will continue to work with the 2852 Committee to ensure the continuous landscaping upgrading of Flirtation Hill.
  • The Drip - Council will continue work with the appropriate Crown departemnts to ensure that weed control measures are undertaken at this iconic reserve.
  • It is Council's intention to upgrade the landscaping of Robertson Park in Mudgee near the rotunda.

Active Parks / Sports Grounds

  • Glen Willow Reserve - Capital Upgrade - Council will commence development of stage 1 of this project at a cost of $9.5 million.
  • Mudgee Showground - Council has adopted a master plan for the future development of this Showground facility. Stage one of the upgrade is proposed to commence in 2009/10 at a cost of $1 million.
  • Kandos Skate Park $100,000.

And in future years..........

Playgrounds

  • Blackman Park Playground, Mudgee - In 2010/11 Council has made an allocation of $130,000 for the development and installatiin of a playground facility.
  • Upgrading of equipment at Darton Park and Weemaran Reserve.

Passive Parks

  • Redbank Reserve - Once the upgrading of hte REdbank Dam is complete, council proposed to upgrade the Redbank Reserve with some walking tracks and appropriate landscaping. That work will commence in 2013/14.
  • Red Hill, Gulgong - Council will continue work with community groups for the upgrading of the Red Hill facility in Gulgong with the purpose of this becoming a significant tourist attraction.
  • Landscaping of Parks - Council proposed to undertake one significant upgrade of a reserve every second year.

Active Parks / Sports Grounds

  • Glen Willow Reserve - Capital Upgrade - Stage 1 of the development of this reserve will continue in 2010/11.
  • Netball courts are proposed at Kandos in 2010/11.
  • Funds have been set aside in 2013/14 for upgrades at both the Rylstone and Gulgong Showgrounds.

MASTER PLAN

Council has finalised the development of a Master Plan for sporting facilities within the region. There is a need to ensure that all the sporting and recreational users are aequately catered for in their needs, that existing facilities are used efficiently and effectively and that there is minimal duplication, especially within the major towns.
