Mudgee Airport

The Mudgee Airport is a vital infrastructure asset for the Mid-Western Region.  It is important that this asset be maintained and developed as a modern regional airport that has the capability of attracting new aviation businesses to the area.

Council has recently developed new aeroplane hangar facilities and has set up a working party which includes commercial operators in the aviation industry to identify other opportunities for further commercial development at the Mudgee Airport.

The two major initiatives that need to be focused on over the next few years are security, which is a world wide trend, and ensuring that the runway remains at a standard that will continue to attract the best possible domestic air travel aircraft.

The main statistics of the Mudgee Airport are:

  • It is a security controlled airport.
  • Location 5 km north east of Mudgee CBD.
  • Aerodrome land area – 95 ha.
  • Main sealed runway length (Code 3C) – 1,739 m.
  • Secondary grass runway length (Code 2C) – 1,075 m.
  • Navigation Aids – Non-Directional Beacon (NDB) and very high  frequency omni range (VOR).
  • Passenger terminal including secure baggage handling facilities and passenger amenities.
  • Commercial flights operating 7 days per week.
  • Private aircraft parking area available.
  • Avagas Available

Major works planned for this year:

  • Fencing – It is proposed that the full circumference of the Mudgee Airport be fenced over the next four years and Council is still hopeful to be able to gain some form of government grant to assist with these works. If we are successful this work will be completed earlier.  The security fencing that is required will also be of such a height that it will prevent the inundation of kangaroos into the airport facility.
  • Extend the footprint of the operational land of the airport to be included in the Comprehensive LEP.
  • Undertake subdivision development for industrial and residential use which is associated with the aviation industry.

And in future years:

  • The fencing of the airport will continue.
